After emigrating from Romania in the 1950s, the Zelig family still squats on land that slipped through the cracks between different authorities. Despite the wishes of the municipality, entrepreneurs and the upmarket residents, there’s no way the Zeligs are leaving.
The family is ruled by Granny Aliza. She owns the land, and has power and leadership over her tribe, who live in fear of falling out of her favor and losing their inheritance.
The idea of “Killing Grandma” is raised as a joke in the first episode. Then it takes shape in a macabre fashion, funny and sad, over the course of the series.
